Our journey started with a visit to the majestic Bohus Fortress, which stands proudly atop a hill, overlooking the Göta River. Built in the 14th century, this fortress has been a witness to countless battles, sieges, and peace treaties over the years. As we walked through its stone corridors, we could almost feel the whispers of the past echoing around us. We spent hours exploring its many towers and dungeons, imagining what life was like for those who once guarded these ancient walls. One of the most memorable moments was climbing to the top of the tower and taking in the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape - a sight that is truly worth the climb!

No trip to Bohus Fortress is complete without joining the Dungeon Tour, where we got to hear the gripping tales of prisoners who once languished in the fortress’ dark and cold cells. The tour guide shared stories of dramatic escapes, harsh punishments, and even legends of hidden treasures. We couldn’t help but feel a chill down our spines as we descended into the darkened depths, surrounded by the eerie silence. If you’re someone who loves a good thrill, this tour is an absolute must!

The fortress is located just a 30-minute drive from Gothenburg, and there are regular buses that run from the city center to the nearby town of Kungälv. For those traveling by car, there is ample parking available at the entrance. We recommend arriving early to avoid the midday rush, especially during the peak summer months. Comfortable shoes are a must, as there’s plenty of walking and some steep climbs involved. Also, don’t forget your camera - there are plenty of photo-worthy moments waiting to be captured!
